Mineral Overview

Minerals are inorganic dietary elements that are essential for almost all bodily and metabolic processes to take place. The macro-minerals, those needed by the body in large amounts (hundreds of milligrams per day) are calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, potassium, sodium, and chlorine. Trace minerals (also referred to as trace elements or micro-minerals) are needed in much smaller quantities; but they are just as essential. They include iron, iodine, zinc, selenium, copper, fluorine, manganese, molybdenum, chromium, sulphur, arsenic, boron, cobalt, lithium, nickel, silicon, tin, and vanadium.
