Manganese Manganese is essential to many enzymes important in the metabolism of protein and carbohydrates. It is essential for normal tendon and bone structure, and for proper functioning of the nervous-system. Manganese deficiency has never been observed in humans. Large doses (from supplements) may cause nerve damage. Good sources of manganese include wheatgerm, nuts, legumes, whole-grains, tea, coffee, sesame and sunflower seeds, bran, and pineapple. |
